On September 27 the first march demanding the application of the terms stipulated on the Geneva Convention regarding the current refugee crisis took place. Official figures showed 15.000 people while the organizers estimated 23.000 people.
Even though Brussels has seen far smaller number compared to other European countries a refugee camp sprang up in the city center in Maximilien park where over one thousand people lodged in tents while they wait to be given their refugee status. The office has capacity to process only 250 requests per day leaving most asylum seekers stranded in the camp sometimes for more than a week, awaiting more dignified lodgings in a one of the many refugee centers spread around the city.
A movement of civilian support was created to fill the gap left from the sluggish reaction of the authorities to the crisis but this group will soon dissolve to impose more pressure on the government to carry out their tasks.
