My photo collage is a summary of the news of western civilization. My art also aims to generate a discussion about the road we are on as a species, and to make sense of the plethora of images produced by modern society. Art is one of the most powerful vehicles for social change. With this formidable potential in mind I construct an expose of the human condition in contemporary society to help foster behavioral change, seeing as how our behavior is leading us into an environmental crisis of existential proportions.
I started collage work to explore and expand the boundaries of figurative art and the symbolism it allows. While searching for a medium to convey the images I envisioned, painting and drawing were not viable means since I did not have the necessary skills and acquiring them would have taken much too long. Photography had been my chosen medium of expression, and consequently I devised a way through digital photo collage. Inspiration is like water; it always finds a path. These panoptic collages piece together a puzzle that tells the saga of our civilization from a humanist perspective. The allegorical human landscapes depicted in my work are inspired from my own life experience as well as from the works of Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, among various other artists of the renaissance, surrealist and pop art movements.
