I spent eight months in the town of Gueckedou between 2011 and 2012, while working on an HIV project with MSF. Even though the AIDS epidemic had been causing considerable damage in Guinean society no one could have imagined then the calamity that would strike with the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic in 2014. It was in Gueckedou that the epidemic began. This is my tender look at a town and a country that I grew to love, before the storm hit.
